'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the nail-biting final moments of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith picking up a spectator's eyewear amid the on-field celebration.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from outside the box, and Cameron Burgess promptly hammered in the rebound before sprinting toward the home end to mark the goal, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

This sealed an incredible comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory booked a next round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right flank after they changed shape. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way Orient attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to manage and slow down a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It requires a strong mentality and focus just to keep pace."

New Chapter

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has quickly replicated that in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a temporary move at League Two the Manchester club, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without real physicality. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for club and country, excelling for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

It has been quite the ride for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his dad, Stuart, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

The player's only game for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was shut owing to conditions of -15C. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I realized I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it became apparent where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to interact with the lads but I'm aiming to be the following person out of the minibus and driving. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

During his time at Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on the Tube after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
